VancouverBay was founded in 2024 by a small group of Vancouver-based software engineers and designers who shared a simple idea: that the visual drama and tactile satisfaction of classic entertainment formats could be delivered entirely for free, without any of the financial risk or regulatory complexity of real-money gaming.
The team had backgrounds in game development, UI design, and web engineering. None of us were interested in building a gambling product. What we wanted was something closer to a digital amusement arcade — a place where adults could unwind, feel the satisfaction of a well-landed sequence, and leave without having spent a cent.
The result is VancouverBay: a free-to-play social gaming platform themed around Vancouver's spectacular working harbour, built with the Harbor Neon design system that draws its colour palette from the electric reflections on Burrard Inlet at night.
Harbor Neon is not just a colour palette — it is a visual language. Deep navy backgrounds recall the dark Pacific waters. Electric cyan lines evoke the glow of dock lights and container cranes. Neon magenta is the pulse of the city behind the harbour, alive and restless.
Every pixel of VancouverBay is mobile-first. We believe that good design should work on the device you actually have in your pocket, not just on a widescreen monitor. Our interface scales gracefully from a 375px phone screen to a 1440px desktop.
VancouverBay is run by a lean team of five. Below are three of the people most involved in what you see on screen.
Mira shaped the Harbor Neon design system and leads all UI/UX decisions. Previously worked on mobile interfaces for a Vancouver fintech startup.
David built the 5-column game engine and the platform architecture. He has a background in game development and a particular passion for accessible web experiences.
Priya manages platform operations and is the internal champion for responsible play policy. She maintains relationships with our support-organisation partners.
